This week we learned more about the laws pertaining to special education. I did not realize how recently these laws have been passed even up to 70 years ago they had no laws concerning individuals with special needs. It is sad to think of how these persons were treated previous to those laws. We also learned about the three different types of laws (statutory, regulatory, and case) and due process. I found this interesting because it helped me to better understand them as the government and laws were never my strong subject in school.
My group also did a presentation on speech and language impairments. One thing that I found interesting from this was all the different types of associations that help individuals with language and speech impairments. I think it is amazing how much support people with these kind of disabilities can receive. I also like that there is an association that helps and supports special education teachers. This, I feel, is very needful.
